Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground turkey (or chicken, pork, beef) Satisfying protein source.
  • 4 cups coleslaw mix (or shredded cabbage plus carrots) Provides fiber and crunch.
  • 2 to 3 cloves garlic, minced (or garlic infused oil) Flavor booster.
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated (or 1/2 teaspoon ground) Adds a warm spice.
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce or tamari Salty umami base.
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar Brightens flavor.
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons toasted sesame oil Adds authentic flavor.
  • pinch red pepper flakes (optional) For heat.
  • to taste sliced green onions (optional) For garnish.
  • to taste sesame seeds (optional) For garnish.

Method

Cooking Steps
  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground meat and cook until browned, breaking it up as it cooks.
  2. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger to the skillet. Stir for about 30 seconds to release the fragrances, being careful not to burn them.
  3. Add the coleslaw mix to the skillet. Stir and cook until it softens, about 3 to 5 minutes, depending on the desired crunchiness.
  4. Pour in the soy sauce and rice vinegar. Stir well to coat all ingredients.
  5. Turn off the heat and drizzle sesame oil on top. Taste and adjust the seasoning, adding a splash more vinegar if necessary.

Notes

Do not overcook the cabbage as it should still have some crunch. For added flavor, finish with a splash of sesame oil off heat.
